Ma-le'l Dunes Cooperative Management Area - Site # 289 |

Background: | The diverse dune habitat supports a unique faunal assemblage, including small mammals and birds, carnivores, reptiles, and amphibians. The beach is occupied by the sanderling, killdeer, whimbrel, dunlin, gulls, Caspian tern, and the western and least sandpiper. Northern harriers and blacshouldered kites can be seen occasionally over the dune areas. On rare occasions, one may be able to view the western snowy plover. |

Site Notes: | The site is rich in plant and animal diversity, with more than seven different habitat types. These include the riparian forest, freshwater swamp, salt marsh, beach pine-sitka spruce forest, subtidal channels, intertidal mud flats, foredunes, dune hollows, and beach strand. |
