Sonoma Coast State Park/Bodega Bay - Site # 198 |
Background: | Eighteen miles of coasline encompass Sonoma Coast State Park including Bodega Head, the Salmon Creek and Russian River estuaries, and more than a dozen beaches. The estuaries attracts thousands of waterfowl and shorebirds; streamside vegetation conceals common ravens, wrens, and nesting ospreys. Harbor seals haul out on the Russian River sandspit, which extends south to their rookery at Goat Rock. From Shell Beach's tidepools to Bodega Head's whale-watching point, each beach attracts wildlife. Diverse habitats at Bodega Bay Harbor offer outstanding birding; a single day can produce sightings of loons, gulls, rails, and warblers; also look for pond turtles. |
