Mount Pinos Observation Point - Site # 143 |

Background: | This summit overlook provides panoramic views of the greater Los Angeles Basin. The parking lot, a small meadow, and trails laden with pine needles offer glimpses of lodgepole chipmunks, mountain quail, and band-tailed pigeons. The forest canopy shlters mountain bludebirds, Clark's nutcrackers, Nuttall's and hairy woodpeckers, and five owl species, including spotted, screech, and flammulated owls. Northern goshawks nest among the conifers. Watch the skies for endangered California condors at various sites within the Los Padres National Forest. |

Viewing Tips: | Birds of prey, upland birds and small mammals are seen year-round, best viewed in spring and summer. Look for songbirds in spring and summer, band-tailed pigeons in fall. Short dirt road leads to summit; ROAD IMPASSABLE WHEN WET. |

How to Get There: | From Frazier Park/Interstate 5, take Mount Pinos Recreation Area exit west 20 miles to Chula Vista parking area. |
