Williams Ranch - Site # 296

Background: A large spring system provides water for the riparian corridor, and includes; a perennial creek, 5 ponds, and a large meadow complex in a dry environment. Rehabilitation of riparian and aspen areas provides great viewing opportunities of diverse bird life in these plant communities. A series of old fire trails and sagebrush steppe restoration provide access for upland habitats associated with, mountain mahogany, western juniper, sagebrush, and unique old growth juniper.
The Williams Ranch has a long colorful ranch history in the Madeline Plains-as it is one of the oldest ranches in the area. The turn-of-the century Nevada-California-Oregon Railway runs through Madeline-which helped the area become the largest sheep shipping center in the U.S. in the early 20th century.

The Habitat: Old growth juniper woodland (10%), riparian creek corridor (5%), meadow habitat (10%), mountain mahogany (15%), juniper/sage steppe (55%), aspens (5%).

The Experience: The diversity of habitat and wildlife.
