Boardwalks Boardwalks The Rainbow Trail offers portions of boardwalk to enable visitors to navigate over marsh and stream portions of the trail. This is a fully accessible 1/2 mile nature trail with interpretive signage that focuses on the four ecosystems: forest, meadow, marsh and stream.

Brochure/Species List Brochure/Species List Free interpretive material is available within the visitor center including the Lake of the Sky Journal (all encompassing recreational guide) and subject species handouts (hiking, natural history, beaches, etc.). Bird Check List available for $1. Thumb through the two natural history binders on the visitor center's desk to review plants and birds of the area.

Bus Accessible Bus Accessible BlueGo/Nifty Fifty bus service is offered from Memorial Day Weekend to mid-June on weekends only, mid-June through Labor Day 7 days/week and Labor Day through first weekend in October on weekends only. Northbound to Emerald Bay stops in the visitor center parking lot. Southbound to the "Y" stops on Hwy 89 across from visitor center access road.

Interpretive Signs Interpretive Signs Award winning interpretive signage on three main trails: Rainbow Trail, Lake of the Sky Trail and Smokey Trail.

Restrooms Restrooms Restrooms available at the visitor center during days/times of operation. 5 stalls in women's room and 3 stall/2 urinals in men's room. Depending on partner donations, 2 portable toilets may be available at Kiva Parking Lot near Tallac Point.

Trails Trails The 1/2 mile interpretive Rainbow Trail is paved with some portions of a boardwalk that includes the underground Stream Profile Chamber (fish viewing). The 1/2 mile Lake of the Sky Trail begins at the visitor center and concludes at the Lake Tahoe shoreline at Tallac Pt. Smokey trail is a brief loop trail that educates children about fire safety. The 1/2 mile Tallac Historic Trail traverses through sage brush and wooded areas to the Tallac Historic Site. All trails have interpretive signage except the Tallac Historic Trail. The Rainbow Trail is fully accessible.

Trash Cans Trash Cans Trash cans available at visitor center parking lot, patio, amphitheater and Stream Profile Chamber. A dumpster is located at Kiva Parking Lot near Tallac Point.

Visitor Center/Ranger Station Visitor Center/Ranger Station The visitor center is open between Memorial Day Weekend and October 31st. Hours of operation varies. Wednesdays closed. Wilderness permits and America the Beautiful cards available for sale at the site. Non-profit interpretive association, Tahoe Heritage Foundation, sells educational materials on site.
